New Delhi: Former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin passed away on Saturday May 1. He was under treatment at the DDU hospital in New Delhi after testing positive for Covid-19. Sources told that Shahabuddin was in a critical condition and doctors were planning to shift him to the LNJP hospital.

DG (Tihar) Sandeep Goel said that Shahabuddin was serving a life sentence for murder in Tihar jail, tested Covid positive on April 20, after which he was admitted to DDU hospital. Data provided by the Tihar Jail authorities till April 23 shows that the prison has 227 active cases among jail inmates and 60 among jail staff, including a jail superintendent and two prison doctors. Four inmates have died of Covid-19 to date, officials said.

Recently, gangster Chhota Rajan and former JNU student Umar Khalid, both of who are in Tihar, had tested positive for the virus.
