Chennai: The debate on language has been on for a very long time now and the New Education Policy has only fanned the debate.

Speaking on the same lines, DMK MP Kanimozhi has questioned from when being India is equal to knowing Hindi.

Revealing about an unpleasant experience that she faced at an airport, Kanimozhi said that a CISF officer at the airport asked her if she was “an Indian” because she said she didn’t know Hindi and asked the officer to speak in Tamil or English.

She posted this with hashtag of “Hindi imposition”.

Responding soon after the post, CISF asked Kanimozhi for her journey details- name of the airport, location, date and time of the incident. They even apologised.

Congress MPs Manickam Tagore stood by her and called the episode to be condemnable. Karti Chidambaram too backed Kanimozhi and said that the CISF should respond to the episode which was “outright ridiculous.”
