Hubbali: “My question to all those who are opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is, what are you gaining by protesting against the Act? Around 70 percent of the refugees who have come to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are Dalits. So, it is now clear that those who oppose the CAA are opposing Dalits," said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a massive CAA awareness convention at Hubbali’s Nehru Maidan on Saturday, January 18, Shah said, “I want to ask Rahul Gandhi a question. Have you read and understood what the CAA exactly means? Has the Act said in any sentence that it would snatch the citizenship of the Indian Muslims? If you have not understood the Act, then let me know, I will arrange a session for you with our Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi. He will educate you. Let me make it clear that the CAA is for those religious minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, who have been tortured and exploited and want to seek Indian citizenship. But, the Opposition parties have not at all understood the purpose of the Act and are spreading false information and creating fear among the minorities of this country, especially the Muslims, just for the sake of votes.”

“The Congress party should be aware that the then prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru had clearly stated that it will be the duty of both the Indian and Pakistani governments to provide land and employment to the people wanting to leave India and go to Pakistan and vice versa. We have followed that principle," he added.

Lambasting the previous Congress-led UPA government in the Centre he said, “When Dr Manmohan Singh was the PM, both he and AICC interim-president Sonia Gandhi were silent on the mass killings of our brave jawans by Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists. They did nothing to retaliate. But, today we have PM Narendra Modi who has the guts to finish terror camps inside India and Pakistan.”

Meanwhile, he urged the people gathered at the rally to take their mobile phones in hand and dial the number 88662 88662 and support the CAA.
