Union Min Joshi inaugurates second Vedanta Cares COVID field hospital in K’taka

Hubballi: Delivering on its commitment to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in Karnataka and support communities in the fight against Covid-19, Vedanta today commissioned its second state-of-the-art 100-bed Covid field hospital in the State in Hubballi. Vedanta’s first COVID field hospital in the state was recently inaugurated at Chitradurga.

Vedanta Cares COVID Field Hospital at Hubli was inaugurated today by  Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India, in the virtual presence of  Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta.

Other dignitaries present at the inauguration included Jagadish Shettar, Minister of large and medium scale industries and district Minister Hubli- Dharwad, Govt. of Karnataka, Basavaraj Horrati, Chairman of Karnataka Legislative council, Arvind Bellad, Hon’ble MLA- Dharwad West, Prasad Abbayya, Hon’ble MLA, Hubli- Dharwad east, Amrut Desai, Hon’ble MLA,Dharwad, Pradeep Shettar, MLC, Hubli- Dharwad, Nitesh Patil, Deputy Commissioner, Dharwad-Hubli, Sauvick Mazumdar, CEO- Iron & Steel Business, Vedanta Limited, Sujal Shah, Deputy CEO- Iron Ore Business, Vedanta Limited and other executives from state and District Administration and from Vedanta.

The COVID Field Hospital at Hubli is equipped with best-in-class medical infrastructure including oxygen and ventilators for critical patients. The two Vedanta Cares hospitals in Karnataka with a total of 200 Covid care beds are in line with Vedanta’s commitment to set up 1,000 COVID care beds across India to support the Government in combatting Covid-19.

Appreciating Vedanta’s endeavour to partner with the Government to counter the second wave of Covid-19, Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs of India Pralhad Joshi said, ” I would like to thank Shri Anil Agarwal ji for immediately coming forward and setting up Covid Care Hospital in Hubli-Dharwad on my request. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister had asked all the industrialists to support the country when the second wave of Covid was grappling the country. Shri Anil Agarwal Ji and Vedanta Group has been very efficient and aggressive and has set-up 2 Covid Field Hospitals in the record time in the state of Karnataka. Even during the first wave. Vedanta had been very prompt to provide medical equipment infrastructure support, medicines etc. On the behalf of the Government of India and people of Dharwad, I would once again like to express my gratitude to Anil Agarwal.”

Jagadish Shettar, Minister of large and medium scale industries and district Minister Hubli- Dharwad said, “I had sensitized Shri Pralhad Joshi ji about the need of a Covid hospital and on his request, Shri Anil Agarwal ji sanctioned this hospital and within a short period his officials installed this important makeshift hospital in Dharwad district. I am thankful to Anil Agarwal ji for his service to the society, which is very important during this crisis period.”.

Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta said, “We are fully committed to our philosophy of giving back. The second wave of the pandemic has disrupted lives and livelihoods and we are doing all that we can to support the Centre and the State governments in the battle against Covid-19. Karnataka is one of the two states in the country where we are setting up two Vedanta Cares field hospitals and this is a testimony to our commitment to serving the communities here through state-of-the-art medical facilities. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi Ji and the entire State administration for providing us support to set up the second hospital at Hubli. At Vedanta our constant endeavour is to ensure the Health and Safety of people and I am sure we will tide over this crisis situation due to COVID, very soon.”

With the launch of this new facility, Vedanta has already rolled out COVID hospitals in record time in Delhi NCR, Naya Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Barmer (Rajasthan), Bokaro (Jharkhand), Chitradurga and Hubli (Karnataka) besides which company has provided 100 bed medical infrastructure support at Goa. The company has committed to set up 10 field hospitals with 1,000 COVID care beds across India to support the central and state governments in combatting the second wave of Covid-19.

During the first wave of Covid-19 last year, Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka provided relentless support to the people of Karnataka and frontline warriors by contributing to the CM relief fund, providing masks, sanitizers and supplying groceries during the lockdown. Vedanta group is working on several initiatives to support the fight against the second wave as well and has supplied 1313 MT of medical oxygen and set up three oxygen plants.
