Hubballi: Nearly 70 members of the Mahila Congress unit were detained by police for staging a protest upon the arrival of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outside the Hubballi airport, on Saturday, October 5.

The party workers, led by KPWCC Secretary Deepa Gouri, were protesting the Centre’s alleged reluctance in sanctioning funds for the flood-hit regions of the state.

Gathered outside the aerodrome, the protestors were seen shouting slogans and waving placards.

Although the Centre has released Rs 1,200 crores for flood-relief works in the state, the protestors alleged that it was simply not sufficient and in turn, demanded Rs 10,000 crores from the Union Government.

Over 103 taluks in the state are still reeling from extreme climatic conditions such as floods or drought. The monsoon season wreaked havoc in several parts of the state and resulted in widespread damage to private as well as public properties.
