Haveri: The state government has waived off weaver loans of up to Rs 50000 per head, announced State Textiles Minister Rudrappa Lamani.
This loan waiver will be on similar lines of that farm loans and around 9000 weavers, who have availed loan from cooperatives will benefit from the move, Minister Lamani disclosed at a press conference.
“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced the loan waiver but asked me to announce the details as I hold the textile portfolio,” explained Minister Lamani.
The government is contemplating giving additional financial assistance to handloom weavers opting for machinery attachment to their existing looms, minister said.
The weaver loan waiver is expected to cost the state exchequer Rs 55.15 Crores.
