Haveri: State home minister Basavaraj Bommai has ordered for a probe in connection with the anonymous person caught on CCTV camera dropping off a bag containing a bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday, January 20.
Speaking to the media, he said, “According to the CCTV footage released by the Mangaluru City Police, an anonymous person was seen moving towards MIA in an autorickshaw and placing a bag at the ticket counter. As the CISF and police personnel found the bag suspicious, they took it to a secluded place and inspected it. During this time, they found explosives in it.”
“The police have already begun an investigation into the matter and the search is on for the people responsible. I have also given them orders to thoroughly investigate the matter. As Mangaluru is already on the list of terror-prone areas in the state, the matter will be taken up very seriously. This is a strategy to tarnish the country’s image and destabilize the economy,” he added.
Speaking about the security measures, Bommai said, “This is nothing new, as such terror activities are carried out every year around Independence Day and Republic Day. But the fact is that they have never succeeded. This time around, as the Republic day is inching closer, security has been beefed up in the Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Belagavi and Hubbali airports and bus stations and the government has given orders to keep a strict vigil on such spots.”
