Haveri: To make ends meet, many PhD holders in Hanagal taluk are enrolling for work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). As the situation turns from bad to worse, eight graduates, twelve postgraduates and four PhD holders from the village gets involved with this scheme.
According to a report by the Times of India daily, an official from MGNREGS stated that this is a result of the tough rules set by the government which have left the people who migrated to different states unemployed. PDO Renuka llager notes that these people have enthusiastically enrolled under MGNREGS.
“I am not bothered about my qualification, my only focus is on earning for my family,” said Siddalingesh who completed his MPhil and enrolled in the scheme recently.
