Kalaburagi: An FIR has been filed against the management and staff of a hospital in Kalaburagi for allegedly not adhering to the COVID-19 precautionary procedures and for hiding details about patients displaying coronavirus symptoms.

Informing about the same on Wednesday, April 8, district Deputy Commissioner Sharath B said that the case has been lodged against the management and staff of Bahamani Super Speciality Hospital for allegedly not following the prescribed procedures meant to deal with COVID-19 cases. The hospital has also been accused of hiding details of patients with coronavirus symptoms.

The development comes after the district family welfare department official and nodal officer of KPME Kalaburagi took cognisance of reports suggesting that private hospitals in the district have been reporting the government about patients having COVID-19 symptoms only at the last moment.

ANI quoted the DC as saying that after verification of the hospitals’ records, it has become clear that serious cases are being reported at the last moment when the patients don’t respond to the treatment properly.

“Only in these cases, patients are being brought to the ESI hospital in Kalaburagi. We have quarantined all staff members of the Bahamani hospital and have taken legal steps against them for non-compliance of the orders issued to them and for not reporting this matter to us at the earliest stage,” he said.

He added that the case has been filed under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 column 51, 58 and sections 269 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
