Over 70 students fall ill after consuming mid-day meal at government school

Kalaburagi: Over 70 students of the government upper primary school, Shiralakota, Sedam taluk, Kalaburugi district have fallen ill after consuming the mid-day meal.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 14 evening, at least four hours after the mid-day meal was served.

All the students were rushed to the government hospital in Mudhol, where a few students have been admitted.

Community health officer Dr. Sadashiv informed that all the students are out of danger.

According to the teachers, over 200 students ate the food provided under the mid-day meal programme on Friday noon. Among them, over 90 students complained of uneasiness and stomachache by 5 pm.

Teachers informed that the rice served on Friday under the mid-day meal scheme was supplied on Thursday and used for the first time.

Senior health department authorities and education department officials are investigating the cause of the illness.
