Kalaburgi: Miscreants applied cow dung on the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Dastapur village of Kamalapur town here on Friday, May 24 night.
When the incident came to light today morning, youths from Dalit organisations gathered near the statue and blocked the road in protest.
It is also reported that the protestors pelted stones at the shops and the protest turned violent with fights in every area of the town, damaging several two-wheelers.
Superintendent of Police Iada Martin Marbaniang rushed to the spot and assessed the situation.
Larger contingents of police have been deployed in order to avoid any further untoward incidents.
