Kalaburgi: There is a proverb that in politics, no one is a permanent foe or friend. On Thursday night, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge proved this proverb to be true when he met his staunch political opponent, a JDS leader, after a gap of 40 years.

Gurumitkal MLA Naganagouda Kandakura and Kharge have not seen eye to eye for the past 40 years. They are considered to be staunch political opponents in Kalaburgi.

On Thursday night, Kharge knocked on the doors of Naganagouda’s residence in Kalaburgi city to seek his support in the election as the BJP’s Umesh Jadhav is posing a tough competition for him in the constituency.

According to sources, Naganagouda did not campaign for Kharge even after Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy directed him to do so. He wanted Kharge to appeal to him personally. Then following CM HDK’s advice, Kharge met with Naganagouda and the two leaders spoke for over 20 minutes.

This seemed to work as Naganagouda later informed reporters that he will be joining Kharge’s campaign from Friday.
