Kalaburgi: In an attempt to digitise rural areas, the Karnataka Gramin Bank (KGB) has introduced “mobile ATMs” in the Kalaburgi district as well as other districts of Karnataka.

The “mobile ATM” is essentially a four-wheel vehicle that houses an ATM and a screen that displays details about various banking schemes.

Speaking to ANI, KGB Regional Manager Girish Hebbar said, “Our aim is to create awareness among farmers regarding bank schemes and how to use digital ATMs to repay their loans promptly.”

He also mentioned that the project was made possible with a Financial Inclusion Fund provided by the National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Appreciating the unique initiative, Kalaburgi local Santhosh said, “This is a very good initiative as some of our villages do not have the facility of ATMs and going to another village to access an ATM can be a very tedious task. Furthermore, proper awareness of bank schemes will help the farmers a lot.”

In order to assist customers and provide additional instructions, the “mobile ATM” will also include a bank official seated in the vehicle.

Such mobile ATMs have been deployed to nearly 68 districts in the state.
