Kalaburgi: Former JNU student union president and CPI party member Kanhaiya Kumar’s lecture at the Gulbarga University was cancelled at the last minute on Tuesday, October 15.
The Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor abruptly withdrew permission to conduct the programme. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) have also been imposed on the campus, according to a report by the Hindu.
It can be recalled that protem Vice-Chancellor Prof Pramila Ambekar had given the green signal to Kanhaiya’s lecture after chairing a syndicate meeting to discuss matters yesterday, on October 14.
Kanhaiya was scheduled to deliver a lecture on the topic “Ambedkar’s vision for youth in modern India”. The programme had evoked sharp protests from right-wing organisations such as Sri Ram Sena.
UPDATE
According to latest reports, the lecture has been shifted from the Ambedkar Bhavan in Gulbarga University to Vishwveshwaraiah Engineering Bhavan, adjacent to Siddhartha Law College.
The programme has been rescheduled to commence at 12 pm.
