New Delhi: Queen Elizabeth II’s net worth is less than British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murthy, daughter of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy.

According to a report by The Guardian, Akshata owns shares worth GBP 480 million which is approximately Rs 4,200 crore, in Infosys, while the Queen’s personal wealth is roughly GBP 350 million which is about Rs 3,400 crore. That is almost a Rs 1,000-crore difference.

Sunak is under fire due to UK law which demands every minister to openly declare all their financial details as well as those of family members upon taking office. This is done to make sure that no conflict of interest arises which ministers execute their duties.

Since Sunak allegedly broke this law by not disclosing his wife’s financial assets, a probe has been launched into the matter. Authorities also found out that Sunak’s financial statements only mention that his wife is the owner of a small UK-based firm called Catamaran Ventures.

Aside from this, Akshata being the owner of Infosys shares is actually a conflict of interest for Sunak as the UK government is a contractor of the tech company.

Reportedly, Akshata also has undeclared stakes in six other UK firms and holdings which includes a GBP 900 million-a -year joint venture with Amazon India.

Even though there’s a demand for the government to look further into the matter, British PM Boris Johnson’s office has reportedly said that they are content with Sunal’s financial disclosures and stated that he has followed the ministerial code of conduct.
