Some politicians have a knack of making bizarre statements and demands. In yet another unconventional and weird move, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut put forth a demand suggesting all poultry products like eggs, along with chicken meat, be classified as ‘vegetarian’. The Rajya Sabha MP made the demand in the upper house during a discussion on the benefits of ayurveda, a report in the Mumbai Mirror said.
The senior parliamentarian reportedly said the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy (AYUSH) should take a call on whether chicken is vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
“Once I had gone to a small hamlet in Nandurbar region. The adivasi people came and served us food. When I ask them what was it, they said it was an ayurvedic chicken. They also said that they take care of it in such a way that after (eating) you will get rid of all illness,” he was quoted to as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
Netizens were obviously amused by the demands and they took to Twitter to make themselves heard with some coming up with hilarious responses.

Why just chicken and eggs? Mutton and Beef should be added to the list too. Vedic sacrifices and havans always had offerings of them. Even horse meat was offered. #AshwamedhYagya Besides they all eat plants and seeds, which are vegetarian without a doubt.

He also stressed that researchers claimed the chicken giving ayurvedic eggs are fed only on ayurvedic food that can be also consumed by vegetarians for its richness in protein.
“While the West was encouraging drinks made of milk and turmeric, Indian people were ignoring them”, Raut said highlighting the importance of drinks made of milk and turmeric.
He also demanded at least Rs 10,000 crore budget for AYUSH.
This is not the first time politicians have come up with bizarre statements. For the past several years, they have been coming up with their prized nuggets of knowledge. Here are a few that take the cake.
