Young and talented Aadi Swaroopa from Mangaluru has become an India Book of Record holder under the title ‘Incredible visual memory artist’ for her artwork ‘trapped education’. She has converted all her notes for her SSLC subjects into 10 paintings comprising line art and through visual memory she recalls the topics.

“I feel very happy when I work on my paintings and can recall everything that I learned just by taking a glance at it,“ said Aadi. Aadi has not attended school till today. She is being taught by her parents Sumadkar and Gopadkar who are the founders of Swaroop Adyanana Kendra.

Principal of this institute Sumadkar spoke to News Karnataka about the creative education and the various techniques that are used by Aadi during the learning process. “Aadi was inculcated the technique of visual memory art and thus she represents her notes into pictures which makes it easy for her to remember. Unfamiliar words are associated with comical work and so she has fun while learning and overall education becomes a joyful experience,” said Sumadkar.

Swaroop Adyanana Kendra, as explained by Sumadkar, follows the principle of self-study and believes that the right to learning should be given to the child itself so that they can choose what they want. This reduces the burden and brings out more potential talent from the children, she said. “We finish the portions within a month and devote the rest of the time for innovation, to discover new things, to create something. Using 10 memory techniques we help to create 10 talent within them which helps them to get recognition in society,” she said.

“Since the beginning we had intentionally decided to go with this type of education for Aadi,” said Sumadkar. We believe that input and exposure does wonder for a child’s growth, intelligence, aptitude, memory power and to increase concentration. So we trained our child to be a role model for this so that we can show the others, she added.

Sumadkar explained that through the art of observation, Aadi was able to read and write from the age of 2. “The habit of listening and making notes through pictures is something that we teach in our institute and our students find it very helpful. Some of our students are now studying MBBS and Engineering and they have told us that they still use this method,” she said. She explained that Aadi picked up this style and created all her notes into paintings in A4 sheet papers. One entire book is converted into one painting. From the outside it looks like a painting but within the border are more than 93,000 small line arts which represents her notes. This visual representation has earned this artwork the title ‘Trapped education’. “Sometimes she used more than four words to describe one word,” said Sumadkar.

Sumadkar who is a writer and Yakshagana artiste believes that being raised by artistes also has impacted Aadi, “my husband Gopadkar who is the director of the Kendra is also a mimicry artist and all of this has influenced her to follow her talent and cultivate many different skills.” Aadi is talented in painting, music, poetry, story writing and many more.

Students in Swaroopa Adyanana Kendra in Mangaluru follow integrated learning where they sit in different classes according to their ability. Along with their regular portions, at least 12 to 13 life skills are also imparted to the students.

Lastly speaking to News Karnataka, Aadi says that this type of education and techniques are beyond the subjects and hopes that through her many will find inspiration.
