Rashmi Ullal: RJ Donning Many Hats

RJ Rashmi Ullal, renowned environmentalist and social worker, recently won two awards in just one week.

Rashmi Ullal is the daughter of U.A. Premnath, a bank employee, and Prameela Kumari, who works as a Kannada teacher at and Government School. She is a distinction-holder in M.Com from Mangalore University.

In an interaction with News Karnataka, Rashmi said, my parents inspired me to take up social service at an early age of 16. As a social activist in the non-governmental organization “Divya’s Youth Service Organization” with its associates she held a “Students of the Year” district-level competition for the first time and received a commendation from all the educational institutes of Mangalore.

She has conducted a number of programs on various environment-related issues like “Save trees,” “The importance of nature,” Swachh Mangalore” and has successfully conducted programs for children.

Dining, entertainment, and education-related programs are regularly conducted by her in Balashrama and old-age centers. She has also been working on counseling women.

She had a special interest in the field of radio from an early age. Inspired by philosophy of Swami Vivekananda she has given numerous motivational talks in “Yuva Vani”, Mangaluru.

She often addresses topics related to environmental conservation and social problems as a radio jockey on 93.5 Red FM. She has conducted radio interviews with all the great artistes of Kannada and Tulu cinema and has identified several hidden local talents. He is the recipient of the National Award for English language documentary on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Voice Presentation). She represented Mangaluru at the national level program “Sawaalige sai” of Udaya TV. She has dubbed voice for many Kannada and Tulu films and advertisements including Tulu Cinema Pattanaji and Umil.

Rashmi said, “With the help of the children of the Kutthar ashram, I started the Seed Ball (Red Soil + Cow Urine + Cow Dung placing seeds in them) campaign. We successfully planted more than 1000 seed balls in Yenapoya college garden.”

Her love for nature is incredible. She gave plants as gift to all the guests at her wedding. She said her initiative inspired many and they too started gifting plants on birthdays, and marriages.” 

She recognizes herself as a writer, and over 100 articles, including “the reincarnation of the tree,” “the Western Ghats, a paradise,” and “never go against nature,” were published in prominent dailies.

She wasthe chief guest at the Brihat Forum in Mangaluru. He was honored by many local organizations for their social concerns.

She also made documentaries on social issues such as “Do not bargain in small shops,” “Importance of farmers”, “respect for women,” “planting plants in the cemetery – Madhav Ullal”, “Artist Kuttaru Thimmakka Pardana,” “Attempt to introduce women achievers” etc, which have received appreciation from the public.

Being associated with the  “Divyas Annapurna” project, she is providing meals to the stray animals and poor people around Falnir, Kankanady, State Bank, and Hampankatta in the City. She inspired youth to work for the well-being of society. During the Covid pandemic, she offered financial assistance to the needy.

Currently, she is working in Bangalore as a manager. She has started her own YouTube channel “RJ Rashmi Ullal”, which inspires people.

Recently she won the Nobleman 2021 Award and on International Women’s Day she received the Women’s Achievement Award 2021. National Award by the Crime Control force, and Abhijyana Foundation is indeed a tribute to her service.
