NK Impact: First Organ Harvest is done at Indiana Hospital Mangaluru

The NewsKarnataka and Global TV Team have been instrumental in creating awareness about Organ Donation. They have been conducting a series of video episodes on the subject with the help of Mr L Goel, Chairman Organ Donation India Foundation which is widely circulated and viewed.  We believe that the awareness brought about through this social initiative of the NewsKarnataka and Global TV teams has resulted in the conduct of the first Organ harvest for donation and Transplant at Indiana Hospital yesterday the 17th of May 2019.  The Police created a corridor for the organs harvested from Mr. Chandrashekar at Indiana Hospital – the corneas were sent to Fr. Mullers, the right Kidney to Manipal Hospital, while the left was transplanted in Indiana itself. The liver was sent to Fortis Hospital Bangaluru. In the bargain, six lives were saved or bettered.

On the 21st of April this year, Shri L Goel, Chairman Organ Donation India Foundation and Chief Promoter Pandit Health Resort & Spa participated in a TV discussion with Dr. Yusuf A Kumble Managing Director & Chief Interventional Cardiologist, Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute, Mangaluru on Organ Donation Awareness Program at the studios of newskarnataka.com. On this occasion Mr. Canute J. Pinto, Director, NewsKarnataka, and Mr. N V Paulose, Director Global TV were present among others.

Today Mr. L Goel, Chairman Organ Donation India Foundation sent congratulatory messages to Dr. Yusuf A Kumble, Managing Director Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute Mangaluru for successfully conducted first cadaver Organ Donation Transplant at Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute Mangaluru. In his message, Mr. Goel recalled his interaction with Dr. Yusuf A Kumble on Organ Donation Awareness Program on NewsKarnataka and Global TV at the NewsKarnataka Studios. He hoped that by organizing this Organ Donation Awareness Program at Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute many more lives could be saved. He also congratulated and thanked NewsKarnataka and Global TV for providing a platform to interact and discuss with different dignitaries on Organ Donation Awareness Program in India.

Here is the text of his message to Dr. Yusuf.

 “Dear Dr. Yusuf,

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your entire team of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute for harvesting organs of brain dead Mr. Chandrashekhar. This being the first organ donation transplant operation successfully done at your esteemed institution, am sure this will increase more cadaver donation in Mangaluru and Karnataka. I take this opportunity to thank NewsKarnataka and Global TV for giving an opportunity to interact with you and other dignitaries on the Organ Donation Awareness Program. Looking forward to the Organ Donation Awareness Program at Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute as discussed so that many more lives could be saved.
