Moodbidri: On the National Highway 169 (Old NH 13), 34 kms by road from the headquarters of the Dakshina Kannada District, Mangaluru, you will find a town that derives its name from the Bamboo that was grown there in ancient times. It’s called Moodbidri.

His wife Melissa D’Souza partners him in his company and his endeavors to develop Moodbidri and its surroundings. But managing their customers’ needs effectively is their primary concern. Pereira told Newskarnataka.com that Moodbidri is fast becoming what they call ‘urban’, but it retains its rural characteristics and building and marketing real estate in a rural area has its challenges. “It is really tough to construct buildings in rural areas. Attracting customers is still a difficult task. Even then, our quality of construction and after-sales service is the reason customers trust us. Most of our customers are coastal NRIs working in gulf countries like UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain as well as Israel, UK, and Australia. In addition, we also have customers who hail from the coastal region working in the metros of India like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. We take the responsibility of renting the apartments purchased by our customers and depositing the rental income into their respective bank accounts.”
ICARE: unaffected by the Real Estate downturn
“Touchwood, we have not had to face the downturn that generally, the real estate market has been experiencing in the last couple of years. We continue to grow. That must be a testimony to our quality and service” says Pereira. “Though the real estate industry is not in good shape at present, we have not faced any difficulties. We have already completed six projects and are on the verge of completing the seventh one. ‘ICARE Church Gate Palace’, which houses 60 flats is under construction opposite the Kinnigoli Church. This is the only building that is approved by the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA-PRM / KA / RERA / 1257 / 333 / PR / 180217 / 001365). This building houses one, two and three-bedroom flats with facilities like parking, gas connection, lifetime maintenance, children’s play park, gym, and clubhouse,” he added.

Government’s own employment data reveals rising unemployment and the government can do with all the help it can in this crucial area of nation-building. And that is exactly what Pereira has done through his firm’s projects in Moodbidri and its surroundings. Already having provided employment to hundreds, Ashwin Pereira hopes to create still more employment opportunities, especially in the Moodbidri taluk through his pet project – a commercial complex called ‘ICARE City Mall’ near Alva’s College, Vidyagiri, Moodbidri. “I care, therefore I build,” Pereira told me.
The Mall has a total of 1,60,000 sq. feet of commercial space on the ground 1st and 2nd Floor and will feature a 10,000 sq. ft. supermarket, a children’s gaming zone, a food court, two multiplex movie theatres, and a three-star hotel with boarding facilities, two-storied parking facilities, a restaurant, and an air-conditioned party hall. The project will be jointly constructed by ICARE Builders and a Singaporean-firm CPG India Private Limited.
