Sullia: Summer camps often bring together activities, which are more of craft, art, sports etc. Very rarely is nature included in summer camps. In one such different summer camps organised by Guthigaru Yuvaka Mandal in Sullia, the participating students were given a chance to go closer to nature.
The aim was to inclucate love for nature and enhance the knowledge of children about nature.
The organisers took the participating students to forest area, allowed them to closely watch the floral and fauna.
The students had a refreshing dip in the flowing river, had lessons on river bank, danced in joy, relished sumptuous food amidst majestically grown wild trees, brought out the artist in them and painted under the shades of trees, learnt about various varieties of plants and trees around. All in all, it was a school outside the school.
The student studying from sixth to tenth standard in Guthigaru, Elimale and Subramanya took part in the summer camp.
As they saw and learnt about things that they had never paid attention to before, the students say that they learnt about importance of water during the camp, which was something that they will never forget.
Keeping aside their pencil and paper, the students used charcoal, leaves and mud to make some artwork, which they said was enthralling.
For the students, this summer camp is something that they will look forward to every year.
