K’taka farmer turns millionaire after selling his bumper onion crop

Chitradurga: A farmer from the Chitradurga district has used the hike in onion prices to his advantage as he has now become a millionaire. The farmer, identified as Mallikarjuna, sold his onion crop at the highest ever price in the recent past.

Speaking to ANI, Mallikarjuna said, “I have been growing onions in my fields for the last 15 years. I used to grow onions on 2-3 acres of land, but now I am sowing onions in up to 20 acres of land.”

Elaborating on his success, the farmer said, “I had sent 3,700 onion bags to the market in three grades. This time I earned about Rs 96 lakh while my total expenses were about Rs 15 lakh.”

Mallikarjun also opined that with the help of the government, no farmer would experience loss.
