Udupi: The annual diocesan Eucharistic procession was held on the feast of Christ the King at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur and evoked a devotional response from nearly three thousand Catholic faithful representing 52 parishes of the Udupi Diocese on Sunday, November 24.
The Eucharistic mass was concelebrated at the Cathedral by the Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese along with Msgr Baptist Menezes Vicar General of the diocese, Very Rev Fr. Stany B Lobo Chancellor of the diocese, Diocesan deanery deans Very Fr, Valerian Mendonca, Very Rev Fr Joswey Fernandes and other priests of the diocese.
In his brief homily, the Bishop said that Jesus Christ wishes for His Kingdom to begin to be established in our world. "As King, He also calls us to establish His Kingdom by seeing to it that His truth and law are respected within civil society. It’s Christ’s authority as King that gives us the authority and duty as Christians to do all we can to fight civil injustices and bring about respect for every human person," he said.
The mass was followed by the adoration and the solemn Eucharistic procession. The brass band led the procession followed by the Cross, candle bearers and the devotees. The Bishop held the Blessed Sacrament that was rested on a pedestal fitted on a decorated vehicle by parishioners of Brahmavar. The procession moved through the Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur Road, Ozanam, Goretti Hospital and entered the Mount Rosary Church premises.
Rev Fr. Melwyn Roy Lobo, assistant parish priest of St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur, Karkala read a passage from the Holy Gospel. Fr Roy Lobo spoke on the importance of the Eucharistic celebrations by the Catholic Church and said that the Eucharist is the Sacrament of Unity. "The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament of unity because it brings the faithful close to Jesus and one another. Having been nourished by the Lord Himself, we should, with an active love, strive to eliminate all prejudices and obstacles to brotherly cooperation with others."
The Bishop read out the prayers along with all participants of the Eucharistic celebrations. At the end, the Bishop expressed gratitude for the success of the diocesan Eucharistic procession which was jointly held by the Milagres Cathedral and the Mount Rosary Church.
Rev Fr. Dr. Leslie D’Souza parish priest of Mount Rosary compered the ending of the Adoration at Mount Rosary Church. Retired Prof. Hilda Rodrigues compared at the Cathedral prior to the mass and after the mass. Rev Fr. Prakash Anil Castalino proposed a vote of thanks.
