Mangaluru: The Youth Commission of Mangalore Diocese, in collaboration with White Doves, organised a 'Youth March For Christ'with the theme "Christ our life and light" on Sunday, December 1 at 3:00 pm. The youth of Mangalore Diocese gathered at Milagres Church in the city.
YCS Mangalore Diocese President Suraj Noronha welcomed the gathering. Bishop of Mangalore Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha insensed the Holy Bible. Youth leaders such as ICYM President Leon Loyd Saldanha, YCS President Suraj Noronha, Jesus Youth Coordinator Ashal Benny, and Aicuf State President Akshitha Steefal Fernandes took the Bible in procession.
The procession was flagged off at Milagres Church and culminated at Nehru Maidan. It featured several tableaux depicting nature, the Holy Family, Mother Theresa and her service to society, public awareness, etc. A huge cross was carried by the youth in the procession while the Bible was carried by Fr. Peter Paul Saldanha.
Several youngsters also carried placards and saint flags as they marched to Nehru Maidan while singing hymns. The Bible was placed on an altar set up at the venue by the organisers. The Bishop honoured the bible by garlanding it.
Afterwards, Jeppu Parish priest Fr Clifford Fernandes delivered a speech on the theme of the event. Fr Cyril Lobo from the Bondel Parish led the praise and worship along with Ronald Ammembal. The Bishop led the prayer of consecration and delivered his message to the youth.
Jesvita Princy Quadros was felicitated for being appointed as a member of the international youth advisory body by the Vatican.
Finally, Youth Commission Secretary Fr Ronald Prakash D'sSouza delivered the vote of thanks.
Vicar General Fr Maxim Noronha and many priests were present. Nearly 2,000 youth from the Mangalore Diocese actively participated in the 'Youth March For Christ'.
