Mangaluru: As a part of their 150th Birthday celebrations of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Cordel Unit, organized a ‘Road Repair and Swacch Bharath Abhiyan’ on Tuesday, 2nd October 2019. The programme began with an inaugural ceremony at 8.30 am. Ex-Mayor, Bhaskara K, was present and appreciated the youth for taking such an initiative. Rev. Fr Victor Machado, Vicar of Cordel Church, Kulshekar spoke on the occasion and congratulated the youth for conducting the programme outside the church premises.
Asst. Parish priest Fr. Lawrence Cuthinha, vice president of parish Pastoral council Loy Noronha and Secretary Saturnine Monteiro, ICYM President Rahul Sequeira were present. Meenal Pinto compered the programme.
The gathering was divided into two teams; one team headed from the church premises towards Kaikamba, cleaning and removing plastic and non-degradable waste found beside the road. The other team filled the potholes noticed on the road which was causing discomfort to commuters over the last two months. A total of 60 youth and around 25 parishioners participated in the programme. Along with the youth, Auto Rickshaw drivers and Kiran Enterprises extended a helping hand to this noble cause.
