Mangaluru: The 97th year of the “Mangaluru Sharadotsav”, celebrated ritualistically at the Acharya Mutt, located within the premises of the Sri Venkatramana Temple, Car Street, concluded on a grand note in the wee hours of Thursday, October 10.

The Goddess Sharada idol, which was brought to the temple in a grand procession on October 3, was installed after several rituals were performed on October 4.

The idol was decorated in different avatars for six days.

Yesterday, the idol was taken in a procession on a lit palanquin along with several tableaux. The streets through which the procession proceeded were vibrantly lit up.

A number of pili vesa (tiger dance) teams participated in the procession and upon reaching the temple premises, showcased their dance performances, encouraged by the Mangaluru Sharadotsav Committee.

The procession, which began from the Temple Square, moved through Gaddekere, Dongarakeri, New Chitra talkies, Chamaragalli, Lower Car Street before finally culminating at Car Street, where the artistes who performed in the procession were felicitated, along with the police personnel.

Later, the idol was immersed in the Mahamaya Temple pond.
