Chitradurga: A pregnant woman who developed labour pains on Friday, December 21 morning had to travel in a sheep transporting vehicle to reach the District Hospital. Lakshmamma of Marikanive village, in Hiriyur taluk waited two-and-half hours for an ambulance which never arrived.
Her parents took her to a primary health centre in Madadakere, where a nurse advised them to take Lakshmamma to the District Hospital.
After waiting for an ambulance for hours, the patient’s parents started looking for a private vehicle which was also not available at the moment.
With no other option and Lakshmamma’s increasing labour pains, her parents had to take her in a sheep transporting tempo. She had to travel 35 kms to reach the hospital, as the vehicle went via H D Pur route, due to poor roads.
The woman was accompanied by her husband and three more women.
