Chitradurga: A government hospital which was opened by the former chief minister S Nijalingappa is locked from the past several months.
The hospital which was opened for the public around 50 years ago in Pandarahalli of Chitradurga taluk by Nijalingappa was also upgraded with all the necessary facilities.
This hospital has one doctor and a team of six paramedical staff.
This hospital is said to be the only source of treatment for several villages nearby, but ironically, a doctor named Akshatha, who is practising here, is said to be absent from the past month or two. Due to this, even the paramedical staff has stopped working and the hospital has turned defunct.
Condemning this, the villagers staged a protest and the town health officer (THO) had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control. But the officer failed in the attempt as the villagers charged against him, questioning what the administration was doing.
When the THO inspected the attendance registers, it was found that Dr. Akshatha was not available from November 4, 2018.
After having the register inspected, the THO questioned how could one know if such is the situation in the hospital. The officer, later said that the administration would arrange for a doctor to attend the patients for three days in a week.
