Chitradurga: Hosadurga BJP MLA and former minister Gulihatti Shekar allegedly attempted suicide on Sunday night, by pouring petrol on himself in an attempt to self-immolate.
He claimed that the police were harassing innocent people by registering false cases against them in connection with illegal sand mining.
During a protest in front of the Hosadurga police station in this regard, he doused himself with petrol and attempted to set himself on fire. His supporters and the police promptly intervened and stopped the MLA from harming himself.
He was immediately rushed to the taluk hospital and admitted as petrol had entered his eyes and nose. He is now reported to be out of danger.
