Chitradurga: Former Karnataka Legislative Assembly speaker D Manjunath passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, February 3.
According to reports, he was suffering from a prolonged health issue and was admitted to Appolo Hospital, Bengaluru. He died at around 3.30 pm without responding to treatment.
Manjunath was elected to the Karnataka Assembly in the year 1967 and went on to become the Legislative Assembly Speaker. He also served as the working president of the district Congress committee.
In the year 1977, he joined the Janata Party and rendered his service as the district president of the party for three years. In 1983, he was elected to the Legislative Council. He also handled several ministerial portfolios between 1984 and 1987.
According to sources, Manjunath maintained a distance from active politics as his health did not permit him and remained in his farmhouse located in Hiriyur.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons.
