Chitradurga: Giving a clarion call to the people to be wary of the ‘Chowkidar’, All India Congress Committee Chairperson Rahul Gandhi said that even as self-styled Chowkidar makes tall claims of protecting the country, the citizens have been saying that ‘Chowkidaar Chor Hai’.

Addressing a massive rally in Chitradurga on Saturday, April 13, Gandhi first greeted the people on the occasion of ‘Ramnavami’ in Kannada and went on to take a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gandhi questioned the gathering if they have ever seen a security guard or a ‘Chowkidaar’ outside the residence of a poor man, a farmer, a labourer or an unemployed youth?

“We see Chowkidaar outside the residence of Ambani and the self-styled ‘Chowkidaar’ for sure is guarding a handful of rich people of our country,” he said.
Though announced earlier, Gandhi reiterated that the Congress government will credit a sum of Rs 72,000 per annum into the account of poor families in the country, just as a counter to Narendra Modi’s claim of Rs 15 lakh, that he promised during the last elections.
“Did you all get Rs 15 lakh in your accounts that was promised by Modi,” he questioned and added that the Congress made a fact-finding in this direction and think-tanks of the party found that practically it was possible to credit Rs 72,000 into the accounts of the poor every year without perturbing the economy of the country. He said that 25 cr people will be benefited from the programme.

“I am not a Chowkidaar of this country and I do not aspire to be one. I listen to the voices of the people of my country and I speak what they want to hear. I am here not to speak my ‘Mann Ki Baat’, but I am here to listen to yours,” he said to the cheering audience.

Further attacking Modi, he said that one can only see the Prime Minister hugging the Ambanis, Adani, Nirav Modi or Mehul Choksy, but one can never find him hugging a poor man.
“Have you ever seen me with the Ambanis and the Adanis. I am always seen hugging a poor farmer and the oppressed. I am your man,” he said adding that Modi is the man of the riches.

Special budget for farmers

Gandhi said that the Congress has made two important life-changing decisions for the farmers.
First, he said that a special budget will be presented for the farmers, which will have all the comprehensive details about what the government will be doing for them. From support price, irrigation facilities, bank loans, loan waivers, compensation for crop loss etc will be mentioned in the budget.
The second decision is to ensure that no farmer is jailed for defaulting a loan.
“If you want to jail our poor farmers, you have to put Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksy and the likes behind bar,” he said.
