Mangaluru: The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Yenepoya Dental College in collaboration with Karnataka State Chapter, AOMSI and Yen Onco Centre, Yenepoya Medical College conducted a South Zone Live Surgical Workshop with the theme “ORAL CANCER FOR ALL” on 31st August 2019 at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).
Dr. M Vijayakumar, Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Surgical Oncology, Yen Onco Centre along with his team of Oncology surgeons, plastic surgeons, and maxillofacial surgeons, performed 3 live surgical demonstrations of resection and reconstruction on patients suffering from oral cancer.
Pro-Chancellor Mr Farhaad, Vice-Chancellor Dr M. Vijayakumar, Guest of Honour Dr Kumaraswamy, Dean of Yenepoya Dental College & Organizing Chairman Dr B.H Sripathi Rao, Registrar Dr Gangadhara Somayaji, Vice Principal Dr Sham S. Bhat, Additional Dean and Secretary of the Islamic Academy of Education Dr Akhter Husain and Organising Co-Chairman Dr Jalaluddin Akbar were present on the stage during the inaugural function.
Dr. B.H Sripathi Rao welcomed the gathering which was followed by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. M Vijayakumar spoke about the importance of early screening and management of oral cancer. Dr. Kumaraswamy and Dr. B.H Sripathi Rao were felicitated for their exceptional contribution to the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, for which they expressed their appreciation and gratitude. Chief guest Mr Farhaad Yenepoya shared his views which was followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Jalaluddin Akbar.
Video presentations on “Minimally Invasive Surgeries in Oral Cancer” by Dr. Sandeep Nayak, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore and “Bone and Soft Tissue Reconstruction in Oral Cancer” by Dr. Deviprasad S, Plastic Surgeon, Yenepoya University were conducted.
A Panel discussion was held on the management of various stages of cancer. The panel included faculty from oral surgery, Onco-surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, plastic surgery & palliative care. The program concluded with a valedictory function.
More than 250 delegates from all over south India actively participated in the event.
