Mangaluru: An apprenticeship awareness programme was conducted for the students on October 15 at the St Aloysius I.T.I auditorium.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by the Sewing Technology students.
Principal Roshan D’Souza welcomed the resource person Giridhar Salian- Principal, Govt ITI, Kadri Hills, Mangaluru.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Cyril D’mello, Director, said that the programme will be useful and that the students should make use of the opportunity to better their future.
Giridhar Salian spoke about the benefits of the apprenticeship scheme. “After a one or two year ITI course, which the industrial training institutes provide, the certificate is the NTC (National Trade Certificate), which has a value in industries. These ITI pass-outs are considered as semi-skilled technicians. To become fully-skilled technicians, the students should join any industry as apprentices where they will gain experience by working in actual industrial environment. They will also be given monthly stipend. According to the Apprenticeship Act 1961, any industry which has a minimum of six workers, should compulsorily take apprentices for training. The industries need skilled workers, hence industries provide on-the-job training called apprenticeship. Here, the trainees learn specific skills. At the end of the training, theory and practical examinations will be conducted, where theory is an online exam and practicals will be conducted in the industry itself. After the successful completion of apprenticeship training, an NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate) will be provided. A trainee with NTC and NAC certificates is considered equivalent to a diploma holder.”
He also explained the registration procedures for apprenticeship on www.apprenticeshipindia.org. He said that these programmes are for the benefit of the students and that by making the right decisions and possessing a good attitude one can reach higher altitudes.
