Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School held its annual sports meet for classes I to V at the Gonzaga grounds on the morning of October 22.
National level athlete Shreema Priyadarshini, who was the chief guest on the occasion, declared the sports meet open by releasing balloons.
After the school flag was unfurled, the oath was administered by Aparna Suresh.
An impressive, energized and rhythmic display set the tone for the rest of the events.
Addressing the students Shreema said that hard work will always pay for a person’s growth in life and advised the students to handle success and failure in a balanced manner.
Principal Rev. Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ, who also spoke on the occasion, emphasized on the importance of sports in a child’s life and said that participating in sports will enable to bring out the best in a child.
The sports events held during the event included running race, frog race, long jump and relay. As the budding athletes ran for the finishing line, the spectators motivated them with their enthusiastic cheers. The winners were honoured with certificates and medals.
Earlier, the programme commenced by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song.
The day came to an end by lowering the school flag followed by the National Anthem.
The formal function was compered by Divya Aravind, a class III teacher and Rasha, the school counsellor. Prafulla Tulluri, teacher of class V welcomed the gathering. Vice-principal Jacintha D’Costa introduced the Chief Guest. Vidya Esther, a class V teacher proposed a vote of thanks.
