Mangaluru: Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India (erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD), to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculty members.
The Award Ceremony of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA 2020) and Rankings Announcement by Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri. Venkaiah Naidu was conducted on 18th August 2020, at 11.00 AM, virtually. NITK Surathkal was ranked in Band A – rank between 11-25 in the rankings under the category of government-funded institutions. The Minister for Education, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, and the Minister of State for Education, Shri Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre, were also present during the virtual announcement.
Institutions were ranked in two broad categories – Publicly Funded and Private or Self-Financed Institutions under which there were 5 subcategories. A sixth sub-category for higher educational institutions for women has been introduced this year to encourage women and bridge gender disparity in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. A total of 674 HEIs under different categories have participated in ARIIA 2020.
ARIIA considers all major indicators which are commonly used globally to rank most innovative education institutions/ universities in the world. ARIIA ranking has received wide acceptance among Indian HEIs and has inspired Indian institutions to reorient their mindset and build ecosystems to sustain high-quality research, innovation, and entrepreneurship among Students and Faculty. Moreover, ARIIA aims at setting a direction for institutions for future development in making them globally competitive and in the forefront of innovation.
