Mangaluru: Milagres College celebrated its 9th Annual Day at the Milagres Jubilee Hall on Saturday, March 9.
Former President of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations, Walter D’Souza was the chief guest.

In his inaugural address, he said, “The illiterate people of India understood the value of education and its importance to lead a decent and disciplinary lifestyle. But later, the trend changed and education became public. The colleges are converted into subject based education centres and they gave importance only to text book oriented education in a particular subject. Students failed to realise the importance of discipline and the time sense in their lives.” He stressed that it is only through discipline that a person can achieve success.

He also said that success comes only with hard work. “In order to achieve something in life we need to be disciplined individuals first. Colleges are the best place to find out the value of discipline, utility of time, hard work and success, he added.

He then congratulated the students and staff of the college as they represent themselves in social values and academic achievements.

Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza, in his presidential address said, “Our College is doing very well in academic and non-academic subjects. The students and staff always uphold the name of the college with their achievements. Students cannot limit their learning only to text books. Classrooms cannot teach everything to students, especially in the subject of life and lifestyle. They should learn it from their house, society and surroundings. It is not enough to only learn for life. Students should shape themselves to become individuals with values.”

The programme began with a prayer song. Fr Michael Santhumayor, principal of the college welcomed the gathering. Cassin Rodrigues, vice principal, presented the annual report of the college for the academic year. The proceedings of the International Conference “Ceannaire” and the College magazine ‘Miracle 2019′, were also unveiled at the event.

Eva Manorama, Faculty of commerce and coordinator of the cultural association proposed the vote of thanks. The cultural programme commenced thereafter.

Fr Edwin Monis, assistant parish priest, Milagres Church, Lavina Lobo, vice president, PTA, Alwyn Rosario, Eva Manorama, convenor, College day, Savio Jerome D Souza, CPL, Jaison Alistor, ACPL, Sweedal Juli D’Souza , Cultural Secretary were also present.
