Mangaluru: The Mangalore University Konkani Adyayana Peeta, in association with Milagres College, Mangaluru, organised a Konkani Cultural competition on Saturday, March 16 at Milagres College Aditorium.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Former President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Ronald Castelino was the chief guest of the programme and he lauded the efforts of the Konkani Adyayana Peeta in promoting and spreading the Konkani language and culture in college campuses.
Principal of Milagres College Rev. Fr, Michel Santhumayor, in his address to the gathering, invited the students to promote the Konkani language and culture in its various forms and spread it to the younger generations.
Welcoming the guest and the audience, Dr. Jayavantha Nayak, coordinator of the Konkani Adyayana Peeta said that Konkani is a rich language having a variety that is not found in any other language.
Dr. Devadas Pai, coordinator of MA Konkani University Evening College delivered the vote of thanks and invited the young students to join the Konkani MA programme at the University Evening College.
Eight colleges affiliated to Mangalore University participated in the competition.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Dr. Jayavantha Nayak and principal of SDM College of Business Management Prof. Aruna Kamath was the chief guest.
The winners of the competition were announced during the valedictory programme. Padua College of Commerce and Management, Nanthoor was placed first, Milagres College, Mangaluru was placed second and Canara College was placed third.
