Lab Instructors undergo VTU TEQIP Cell Training at St Joseph Engineering College

Mangaluru: TEQIP 1.3 Sponsored Two-day “VTU TEQIP CELL Training Program for Lab Instructors” was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. H V Manjunath, Chief Manager (Administration), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), on 6th March 2020 at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru. The training program was hosted by the Department of Electronics and Communication of the college in association with Visvesvaraya Technological University-Karnataka, Aryabhatta Knowledge University-Bihar and the Biju Patnaik University of Technology-Odisha.

The Program Coordinator and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Dr. Dayakshini welcomed the gathering and said that the training program will provide a platform for lab instructors to refresh their technical knowledge and communication skills. She mentioned that over 50 participants from 13 Engineering Colleges across the state of Karnataka have registered for the workshop.

Dr. Rio D’Souza, Principal of SJEC, said that training for the technical staff is very crucial and thanked VTU for initiating this training. He also added that sharpening the skills is quintessential and asked the participants to take an active part in this two-day workshop. He also appreciated the distance education courses taken up by the technical staff of the college and encouraged the participants from other colleges to take up similar courses.

The Chief Guest Mr. H V Manjunath appreciated St Joseph Engineering College and other associating institutions for organizing this training program. In his address, he mentioned the Stanford survey which states the lack of practical technical skills among Indian Engineering students. He said that the teaching and nonteaching staff play a crucial role in improving these technical skills of students. He congratulated the management of SJEC for their efforts in building the institute of national prominence in a short duration of time.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, congratulated the efforts of Dr. Dayakshini and the organizing team for their continuous dedicated efforts in putting up this training program. He asked the participants to take full advantage of this two-day training program and go back to their college enlightened. He appreciated the enthusiasm of all the participants who have traveled from far places to attend this program. He said that full registration for this training program shows that people trust in SJEC for conducting efficient skill development programs.

Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa and Rev. Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Assistant Directors of SJEC and Mr. Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager of SJEC were also present for the inaugural.

Ms. Reshma K J, the Program Coordinator, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The inaugural was compeered by Ms. Sadhika Shetty, Asst Professor, Department of ECE.

Post the inaugural experienced resource persons from several reputed organizations addressed the participants over the 2 days.

On the first day, Mr. Harish Thantri and Mr. Harsha from SNM Polytechnic, Moodbidri, spoke about the safety aspects in handling of lab equipment’s facilitated hands-on practice sessions on installation and maintenance of software’s. Mr. Madhu S Manohar, Environmental Engineer at Mangaluru City Corporation, spoke about the problems faced in Waste Management systems.

Day two witnessed Mr. Atul Bhongle, DGM-Fire, and Safety at MRPL & Team, demonstrating awareness of workplace hazards and safety measures to be taken. After that Mr. Nithin Kumar, Senior Manager-HR at CSGI, Bengaluru, addressed the participants on communication skills and its importance.

The training program concluded with the Valedictory program wherein the Chief Guest, Mr. Nithin Kumar, Senior Manager-HR at CSGI, Bengaluru, distributed certificates to all participants along with the management of the college.
