Mangaluru: Jnanapeeta Awardee Dr. Shivarama Karanth achieved everything that a university can achieve with his around 17,000 pages of writing, 400 books and thousands of letters, opined University College Mangalore retired principal Dr. Sathyanarayana Mallipatna.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest at the ‘Karantha Namana’ programme, organised by the University College Mangalore in memory of its proud alumni Dr. Shivarama Karanth on Saturday, Dr. Mallipatna said that Karanth never used to preach. “He wrote dramas and acted, wrote for children, started a press, even became a carpenter, started a school for children and tried to spread Gandhi’s thoughts. Let us try to follow him as much as possible”, he said.
Presiding over the event, Principal Dr. Uday Kumar M A defined Dr. Shivarama Karanth as a pure scientist. “He had the habit of experimenting with life and exploring something new. He loved everyone and answered even children’s questions with utmost seriousness. We, the teachers should try to introduce Karanth more among students,” he said.
Kannada HoD Dr. Rathnavathi T presented the introductory speech. Kannada department lecturer Ashwini Nayak delivered a vote of thanks. Deekshitha compered the ceremony.
Hindi HoD Dr. Nagarathna N. Rao was also present.
