Mangaluru: Rajkiran Rai G, MD & CEO of Union Bank of India visited Sahyadri College and spoke to the I Year students pursuing their MBAs about how Passion, Humility and Continuos learning made him a CEO. Chairman Manjunath Bhandary referred to the Union Bank of India Chief as inspiring not only because he is the custodian of crores of money belonging to people but also because he is so driven by Clarity, Dedication and commitment, that the has excelled in not one but two fields, Education in Agricultural Science and Excellence in Banking

He called upon students to come out of their comfort zones and think strategically and learn to take risks. A leader he told them should always have passion, humility and a continuous thirst for learning more and more. Smart work should go hand in hand with deep-rooted Traditions. he called upon the students to review each night on the day gone by and plan extensively for the next day, not only achievements but also the mistakes and the lessons to be learnt.
He reminded the students to remain focused on capturing knowledge about great personalities who inspire youth by reading and watching YouTube videos
He called upon them to study the mechanics of mergers and acquisitions and crisis management, particularly in the Banking sector. As 76 % of Banking operations are now digital, students have to maintain a knowledge of Technology involved in addition to their banking knowledge
He guided the students to target Financial Literacy, Adopting Villages, and Appointing Business Correspondents with Banking Machines as the key initiatives to cater to rural customers

Rajkiran Rai G before his elevation as Managing Director & CEO was the Executive Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. Rajkiran Rai G is a graduate in Agricultural Science and also a certified member of Indian Institute of Bankers. He has more than three decades of rich banking experience including heading Industrial Finance Branch, Regions and Zonal Offices. He started his career as an Agricultural Finance Officer in the Central Bank of India. He was also serving on the Board of Canara, HSBC and Oriental Bank of Commerce, Life Insurance Co. Ltd.
