A common man can become an achiever in Independent India: Hajabba

Mangalore: In Independent India poor and uneducated like me also can build a school and help needy students, said fruit seller who built schools Harekala Hajabba with his usual humbleness. Speaking after hoisting the National flag during the 73 rd Independence Day celebrations at University College here on Thursday, he particularly hailed media for recognizing him. “Only after people started helping me economically and even I got support from the government. May everyone in this country gets an opportunity like this,” he said. Meanwhile, Hajabba, who is eyeing at building PU College, was felicitated.

In his presidential address, Principal Dr. Udaya Kumar M A said, “sometimes we remain to advise and forget our own responsibilities. Hajabba or many of his kind should be model for us. They don’t work for fame but for self-satisfaction. Let us not change the concept of Independence, but let us bring the change within us, which we want to see in society”.

Meanwhile, NCC Navy wing of the college, which bagged second prize in district-level march fast was congratulated. Senior History Professor Dr. Rajeshwari, NCC coordinators Dr. Jayaraj and Dr. Yathish Kumar, NSS Coordinators Prof. Suresh and Dr. Gayathri were present on the occasion. Manisha mastered the ceremony.
