Vijayapura: The Welfare Party of India (WPI) has already launched an awareness programme to give more strength to the ongoing protest by farmers against the Central Government’s farm laws and to demand the repealing of the farm laws, in the State from January 8 to January 30.

State President, Tahir Hussain said that as part of the event, WPI would be holding protests in front of MPs and MLAs and agitation against the farm laws by bringing students and educated class in the events, and by hosting interactive sessions with the people.

He added that the farmers are not receiving remunerative prices for their produce, and the agriculture sector in India is passing through a tough phase.

“ The farmers are already in distress as on one side they are not getting good prices of their commodities, but on the other side, the cost of input on production is also increasing substantially. This has been leading the farmers to quit farming and look for better livelihood in urban areas”, he said.

He accused the BJP government of bringing laws that could significantly damage the farming sector and alleged that they were rubbing salt on the wounds of the farmers with such decisions.

“ The BJP government at the centre did not care to consult the farmers or their organizations before coming up with the farm laws. Without taking the farmers into confidence, the government brought laws which are completely against the farming sector. The farmers have been holding agitation against the government in Delhi for nearly two months now. Yet, the adamant BJP government is not ready to heed to them”, Husain remarked.

He also alleged that farmers are paying the cost for laws framed to aid the government’s capitalists friends, Ambani and Adani.

Adding that people should raise their voice against the BJP government, he added that BJP was acting ruder than the British rule during the pre-independent era. He urged that people should join the stir against the farm laws as standing with the farmers was equivalent to standing with the country.

Demanding the Modi government to immediately withdraw the laws, he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the biggest hypocrite of the country He also added that people must expose his lies and that the government should form a new committee of agriculture experts to elicit their views on framing pro-farmers laws.
