Sunil Kumar said that the administration to trying to put pressure on the private hospitals to keep updating the details the status of beds in their hospitals on regular bases.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said that with an objective of rationalizing and bringing clarity in the availability of beds in both private and government hospitals, the administration has prepared a bed management system where the hospitals have been directed to regularly update the details.

“ We are time and again asking the private hospitals to provide the accurate data about the vacant beds in their respective hospitals but the response from them is not overwhelming,” he added.

“Even though the district administration assured them of providing men for data entry of bed availability the private hospitals are not cooperating. However, we have appointed a nodal officer exclusively for bed management to keep an eye on the private hospitals to ensure that bed shortage is not faced by the Covid patients,” stated DC Kumar.

Referring to the taluk hospitals, he said that they are making arrangements to increase the capacity of ICU beds with ventilators in taluk hospitals also.

“ We have begun the setting up of ICU wards in taluk hospitals. With this facility, we got 24 additional ICU-cum-ventilators in different taluka hospitals of the district. The ICU wards are already occupied in Basavana Bagewadi and Sindagi taluka hospitals. We have also given training to the staff nurses to operate ventilators, who are managing to run the machines successfully, said DC Kumar.

With regard to oxygen availability, he made it clear as of now, they have no shortage of oxygen as they are getting an adequate supply.

He however admitted that they have limited stock that lasts for only a couple of days. Therefore, they are making sure that that they get keep enough stock always.

“ If we don’t get the supply at least twice a week from Jindal Industries of Ballari, we might run out of the stock. I have also penned a letter to the state government and authorities concerned to intervene and continue the supply from Jindal Industries. Apart from these, two private establishments are also supplying around 400 cylinders per day to private hospitals. There is no dearth of oxygen in district civil hospital as we have set up 6,000 liters Liquid Medical Oxygen plant and there is regular supply from an oxygen plant in Dharwad,” elaborated DC Sunil Kumar.

Remdesivir:

Mentioning Remdesivir, he said at present they have some 500 Remdesivir vials in government hospitals, about 250 doses in BLDE hospital and 340 in remaining private hospitals.

“There is no other stock of Remdesivir available in the district. I have brought this to the notice of the state government and district minister to supply more vials to the district. Even the private hospitals have been asked to place the indent for the required vials with the drug controller” said DC Kumar.

Briefing about the present Covid-19 situation in the district, DC Kumar said that “In the last one week the positivity rate is 11.93 percent. As many as 2,827 people have been tested positive in the same period, which is the highest number reported in the span of one week in the district. The rural areas are turning out to be more vulnerable than the urban. The people have to be more cautious and responsible till the second wave is brought under control,” urged DC P Sunil Kumar.
