Vijayapura: Though the District is not facing any shortage of oxygen, however, the after Kolhapur-based Liquid Medical Oxygen producing company refused the supply oxygen to Vijayapura, the district indeed facing a tough time in procuring adequate quantum of oxygen to meet the sharp growing need.

It may be noted that the Kolhapur company of Maharashtra was supplying LMO to the Vijayapura district which was, to a great extent, meeting the requirement of the district.

But the company later decided to cut the supply of oxygen to Vijayapura, maybe after the demand for oxygen shot up in Maharashtra.

After which, the district suddenly started facing a shortage of oxygen and struggled to find an alternate arrangement to meet the demand.

Stating that it is a gross violation of the pact between Vijayapura and the company, Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar has written a letter to the company asking it to resume the supply.

He has stated that sudden discontinuation of oxygen supply to jeopardize the life of many people who are in urgent need of it.

It is learned that the letter has made no impact on the company as it has not resumed the supply stating that Maharashtra needs oxygen as the demand has shot up dramatically.

When the Kolhapur company decided not to resume supply, the District Administration was looking for alternate options.

The district administration has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare to get the LMO from JSW Jindal Industries of Ballari district.

However, on a temporary basis, a private supplier from Ballari is supplying LMO to a private agency here in the district for the past one week, which has helped to meet at least half of the demand for live-saving-gas.

DC Sunil Kumar pointed that, “There is no shortage of oxygen in district civil hospital, BLDE hospital, L H Bidari Hospital and Yashodhara hospital as these hospitals have their own LMO plants with a regular supply of gas. The remaining private hospitals, which are treating Covid patients, need a regular oxygen supply. At present, there are two private suppliers in the district and we are getting around 400 cylinders every day. However, we need around 13,000 liters of LMO once in four days and we are struggling to meet the demand,” he added.

“We are arranging the oxygen whenever we face the shortage from a valid private dealer from Ballari. A couple of days ago I penned a letter to the government demanding supply from Jindal Industries of Ballari. The state nodal-officer has approved the demand and oxygen supply is likely to kick-start from Jindal in this week,” he added.

“We have demanded a supply of 13,000 liters of LMO twice a week to the district. It has been approved. We will not face the shortage of oxygen once the supply starts,” detailed DC Kumar.
