Government plans to set soil testing centres in every village: Minister

Vijayapura:  Asserting that the government is committed to address all the issues of the farmers, Agriculture Minister, B. C. Patil has said that the government is making all efforts to provide benefits to the farmers. Stating that soil testing plays a vital role in farming, he said that the government wishes to set up one soil testing centre in each village where the farmers can get the soil tested and cultivate the crop based on it.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for Krishna Vidnayna Kendra building here at the cost of Rs. 1.58 crore, he said that the centre will help the farmers in many ways.

“The centre will act like a clinic for the crops where the farmers can get the right treatment for the crop to get higher income”, he said.

Stating that the programme ‘spending a day with farmers’ has been launched to understand the grievances of the farmers and address them, he said that here, the government would be coming to the doorsteps of the farmers.

Advising the farmers to adopt technical skills of farming and use organic farming methods, he said that traditional methods and usage of chemical fertilizers will affect the soil adversely.

He said that the farmers should adopt new farming techniques to get higher yield. The Minister said that the government wishes to establish a cold storage unit in each taluk to help the farmers store their perishable commodities.

MLA, Yeshwantraigouda Patil, Special Representative of Karnataka to Delhi, Shankargouda Patil and other leaders were present.
