Bengaluru: Ballari urban MLA Somashekhar Reddy has threatened to resign if the state government went ahead with its plans to divide Ballari district to form the new Vijayanagar district.
Somashekhar Reddy is the youngest among the once powerful three Reddy brothers.
Reddy informed that Ballari people are against the division. “Ballari is not a big district. Unfortunately, for the political gains of a few, district is now being divided,” he charged.
He stated that he will organise the people against the division beside moving to the court. “I have already discussed the issue with experts,” he informed.
“If the state government does not listen to us, my final weapon is to resignation,” he said.
The Karnataka state Cabinet, last week formally approved the borders for the newly carved out Vijayanagara district from the existing Ballary district.
Vijayanagara will now be the 31st district in the state and will comprise six taluks — Hospet, Harapanahalli, Hoovina Hadagali, Hagari Bommanahalli, Kotturu and Kudligi.
