Police nab six accused of blackmailing man for Rs 5 lakhs-1

Belagavi: An alleged blackmail scheme has been busted by the police, where six accused have been nabbed on Tuesday, December 3.

The accused are Alishan Shabuddin Syed, Salman Gulaz Baig, Bibi Ayesha Abdul Sattar, Heena Akbar, Akhib Allabhaksh Bepari and a minor.

According to sources in the police department, Bibi Ayesha owed Rs 6 lakhs to a person named M M Mujawar in connection with the cloth business. Both Bibi Ayesha and Heena had confronted Mujawar at the State Bank of India's Mahantesh Nagar branch. When Mujawar demanded the money, the duo asked him to go to their house and collect the money.

When Mujawar entered their house, the duo, along with their accomplices, closed the doors and undressed him. The accused looted him of Rs 16,500 in cash, a wristwatch and shot a video of him. Later, they demanded that he pay them Rs 5 lakhs, threatening to make his nude video go viral on social media if he didn't comply.

Mujawar agreed to pay them Rs 2.5 lakhs and told them that he would get the cash soon. After he managed to escape from the gang, he filed a complaint with Inspector B R Gaddekar of the Malmaruti Police Station.

Later, a team led by ACP N C Bharamani conducted a raid on the accused's residence and nabbed all the six. During the raid, the police seized Rs 16,500 cash, a wristwatch, a mobile phone used capturing the explicit video and three two-wheelers.

Belagavi Police Commissioner B S Lokesh Kumar has appreciated the police for their efforts in bringing the case to a satisfactory conclusion.
