Belagavi: Vittal Manjunath Kadakol may be fighting the enemies at the border, but his family in Ramdurga are battling a rather different kind of problem.
Ostracised by the villagers for refusing to part with their land for the purpose of a proposed anganwadi, the family of the soldier is left in dire straits.
The situation for the soldier’s family living in Tottagatti village has been the same over the last three years.
Soldier’s father Mallikarjuna Kadakol told reporters that engagement ceremony of two of his children including Vittal will be held soon and now the priest of the temple has refused to even attend the ceremony.
In 2017, the family had brought the matter to the notice of the DC and the SP and temporarily the problem was solved with dialogue and negotiation.
However, Manjunath Kadakol says that the peace was short-lived as the villagers returned to be hostile within a few days.
Denied water from common tap and being sidelines at temples, now, the family fears that the engagement ceremony may not be conducted by the priest.
Tahshildar Girish Swadi visited the village to take stock of the situation. The soldiers family shed tears in front of the Tahshildar as they explained to him their pangs.
