Belagavi: In the wake of the Supreme Court’s direction to the Central Government to issue a gazette notification with regard to the Mahadayi water dispute, state water resource minister Ramesh Jarkiholi has said that he will meet the Union water resource minister on February 26.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, February 22, he said, “When leaving for Delhi, I will make an attempt to convince and take Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa along with me. The state stands firm on the implementation of the Mahadayi project. CM BSY has already given the green signal for the project by saying that the government will give Rs 200 crores for the same and that the work will begin once the money is released.”
He also said that he would visit the birthplace of the Mahadayi in the Khanapur Tehsil’s Kanakumbi and gather information on the Krishna and Cauvery river water dispute and speak on it later.
Meanwhile, criticizing the Goa government, Ramesh said, “The Karnataka government stands by the Mahadayi water project. If the Goa government feels it is not ethical, let it fight it in the court.”
