Maha-K’taka border dispute: 8 detained for hoisting Uttara Karnataka flag-1

Belagavi: Following the tensions at Karnataka-Maharashtra border, some of the people had allegedly hoisted the ‘Uttara Karnataka’ flag on Wednesday.

Alert police detained around eight people at Hirebagewadi for the act.

It can be recalled that protesters in Belgavi had burnt effigy of Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday for Shiv Sena’s statement that Karwar, Belagavi and some other border regions of Karnataka belonged to Maharashtra.

As the protesters in Belagavi burnt an effigy of Uddhav, as a counter, Maharashtra protesters too burnt an effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

As the case in relation to the border dispute remains pending in the Supreme Court, CM Uddhav Thackeray had called for a high-level meeting to setup fast track hearing in the Supreme Court.
